Free receipt splitter

Scan a receipt, put in some names, get the numbers. No sign-up, no email and no password — you are splitting within about a minute.

Who's splitting?

Any names you like — they don't need accounts, or to be real people.

Add at least one other person.

No sign-up. No email, no password. The split is saved to this browser so you can come back to it — see what that stores. Want history, live claiming and running balances? An account is free.

What this does

This is the whole splitter with the account taken out. Upload a photo of a receipt or a PDF, and every line comes out itemized along with the tax and tip. Add the names of whoever is paying, tap the items each person had, and you get one line per person to paste into a group chat.

Tax and tip are shared in proportion to what each person ordered, not divided by head — so nobody pays part of somebody else's steak. Every split is worked out in whole cents and checked to add up to the printed total exactly.

What is stored, plainly

“No sign-up” is not the same as “nothing is stored”, and it would be easy to let you assume otherwise. So: starting a split here creates a guest account, which is a cookie in this browser rather than an email address and a password. The bill and any receipt you upload are saved on the server against that guest, the same as any other bill.

That means closing the tab does not delete anything, and coming back in the same browser will show you the split again. It also means the receipt is a file on our server — never published on the web, and readable only by you. Guest splits count towards a small free limit before we ask you to make an account.

If you would rather nothing at all left your browser, use the tip calculator, which does its arithmetic on your device and sends nothing anywhere. To have a guest split deleted, ask at eachsplit.support@gmail.com.

Other ways to split

Common questions

Is this really free, with no sign-up?

Yes. There is no email, no password and no payment — you start splitting straight away. Starting a split does quietly create a guest account, which is a cookie in this browser rather than anything you fill in, and it is what lets the split exist at all.

Is anything stored when I use the quick split?

Yes, and it is worth being straight about it. The bill and any receipt you upload are saved on the server against the guest account in your browser, exactly as on any other bill — receipts are stored outside the public web directory and are readable only by you. Closing the tab does not delete any of it, and returning in the same browser shows the split again. If you want nothing to leave your device at all, use the tip calculator, which works entirely in your browser. To have a guest split deleted, just ask.

How is tax and tip divided?

In proportion to what each person ordered. If your items come to 30% of the subtotal, you pay 30% of the tax and 30% of the tip. That is fairer than dividing them per head, which quietly overcharges whoever ordered least.

Can two people share one item?

Yes. Assign the same line to several people and it divides between them. Where a line has a quantity — six drinks, say — you can take part of it rather than the whole line.

What kinds of receipt can it read?

Phone photos, iPhone HEIC files, screenshots and PDFs. A PDF is what you get from an online grocery or delivery order that never produced a paper receipt.

Do the people I am splitting with need to be here?

Not for this page — you enter the names yourself and copy the result out. If you want everyone to claim their own items from their own phone at the same time, use the full app instead; they still will not need an account.
