About

A bill splitter with nothing to upsell you

EachSplit is built and run by Dhairya Patel, an independent developer. It is not venture funded, not owned by a larger company, and has no paid tier — which means there is no feature being held back to make a subscription worth buying.

Why it exists

Every bill-splitting app can divide a number by four. The hard part was never the arithmetic — it is that the number on the receipt is not one number. It is thirty lines, a tax figure that applies unevenly across them, a tip, and six people who each remember their order slightly generously.

So the apps that do handle that put it behind a subscription, and the ones that are free make you type all thirty lines in by hand. Both answers push you back to dividing by four and quietly overcharging whoever ordered the salad.

EachSplit was built to do the awkward version properly and give it away: read the receipt, split it line by line, apply tax the way the receipt actually charged it, and let everyone claim their own items from a link without installing anything or making an account.

How a free app pays for itself

“Free forever” is a claim people have heard before and been burned by, so here is the actual arithmetic rather than the promise.

One thing costs money

AI receipt scanning. Every scan is a real per-use bill from a vendor, and it is the only part of the app that scales in cost with how much you use it.

So one thing is metered

Your first scan is free; each one after that costs a short ad. That ad pays for the scan. Not a subscription, not your data — one ad, one scan.

Everything else is free

Typing a receipt in, splitting it, groups, live claim links, balances, history. No caps on bills, people or groups, because serving those costs us close to nothing.

The whole thing runs as a single process on one small server. That is not a boast about engineering; it is the reason the economics work. An app that needs a funding round to stay online eventually needs your credit card to stay online.

Four things we will not do

Worth writing down, because a promise you can check later is the only kind worth making.

What it is not good at

A page that lists only strengths is one careful readers discount entirely, so:

Getting hold of us

One person reads this address, and it is the same one on the privacy page and the terms: eachsplit.support@gmail.com. Bug reports and “this receipt scanned wrong” emails are genuinely welcome — a receipt that confuses the parser is the most useful thing anybody sends. More on what to include.

Try it on a real receipt

Two free bills as a guest. No card, no account, nothing to cancel.

About the app

Who makes EachSplit?

EachSplit is built and run by Dhairya Patel, an independent developer. It is not venture funded and it is not owned by a larger company, which is the main reason it can afford to have no paid tier — there is no growth target that has to be met by putting a feature behind a subscription.

How does a free app pay for itself?

Short optional ads, and only in one place: AI receipt scanning, which is the single part of the app that costs real money per use. Your first scan is free; after that one ad covers a photo or a PDF of up to two pages, and a longer PDF costs one ad per two pages, because that is what the vendor charges us. Everything else — typing a receipt in, splitting it, groups, live claim links, balances, history — is free and unmetered, since it costs us close to nothing to serve.

Will it start charging later?

The plan is no. The honest version is that nobody can promise what a product does in five years, so here is the commitment that is actually enforceable: anything free today stays free for the people already using it, and if that ever became impossible you would be told before it changed, not after. Any split you have made can be copied out as plain text at any point, so nothing you have done here is locked in.

Does EachSplit handle any of my money?

No, and this is deliberate. EachSplit works out who owes what and stops there. It does not connect to a bank, hold a balance, process a card or move a cent between anybody. When you settle up you pay each other however you already do — cash, Venmo, a bank transfer — and mark it settled here. It cannot lose your money because it never has it.

Where is my data kept?

On a server we run in the United States, with receipt images that are never published on the web and shown only to people the app has confirmed are on that bill. There is no third-party analytics pipeline collecting your receipts and no ad network receiving them. The privacy page spells out exactly what is stored and how to have it removed.

Is EachSplit open about what it cannot do?

It tries to be. It is a website rather than a native iOS or Android app. Only US dollars are switched on. It cannot import your history from another app, and it does not convert currencies. Those are on the comparison pages too, next to the things it does better, because a comparison that never concedes a point is one no reader trusts.
