Terms of use

In effect from 29 August 2026. Written to be read, not to be scrolled past.

The short version: EachSplit is a free calculator for working out who owes what on a receipt. It never holds or moves money. Use it sensibly, do not upload other people's documents, and understand that the numbers are arithmetic rather than financial advice.

1.What you are agreeing to

By using EachSplit you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use it — there is no account to close and nothing to cancel. If you use it on behalf of an organisation, you are confirming you are allowed to accept these terms for them.

2.What the service is

EachSplit reads receipts, divides them line by line, and shows what each person owes. It also stores those bills for you, keeps running balances between people, and lets you share a link so others can claim their own items.

It is a record-keeping and arithmetic tool. It is not a payment service, a money transmitter, a bank, an escrow agent or a lender. It does not connect to your bank, hold a balance, process a card, or move a single cent between anybody. When you settle up you pay each other directly by whatever means you already use, and mark it settled here as a note to yourselves.

Consequently, a debt recorded in EachSplit is a note between you and the people you split with. We are not a party to it and cannot enforce, collect, reverse or guarantee it.

3.Accounts, guests and the people you split with

You can split bills as a guest without an account, up to a small limit. An account keeps your bills and balances and lets you send live claim links.

You are responsible for what happens under your account, including keeping your password to yourself. Tell us at eachsplit.support@gmail.com if you think somebody else has got into it.

Anybody holding a share link can see that bill and claim items on it. That is what the link is for — treat it like a door key, and see how share links work before pasting one somewhere public.

4.What you upload

You keep ownership of your receipts. You grant us only the narrow permission needed to run the service: to store the file, process it to extract the line items, and show it back to you and to people you have shared that bill with.

You confirm that you are entitled to upload what you upload. Do not upload documents belonging to other people without their agreement, and do not upload anything containing information you would not want stored — a receipt is a receipt, not a medical record or a full card number.

We do not sell your receipts, and we do not hand them to an advertising network. What is stored, and how to have it removed, is set out on the privacy page.

5.Fair use

Do not use EachSplit to:

  • break the law, or help somebody else break it;
  • upload material that is illegal, or that you have no right to share;
  • attack, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service, or try to reach bills that are not yours;
  • defeat the ad that funds receipt scanning by automated means — it is the thing paying for the scan you are asking for;
  • impersonate somebody else when claiming items on a bill.

We can suspend an account that is doing any of the above. Where it is practical to warn you first, we will.

6.Cost, ads and changes

EachSplit is free and there is no paid tier. AI receipt scanning is funded by short optional ads: the first scan is free, and after that one ad covers a photo or a PDF of up to two pages, with longer PDFs costing one ad per two pages. Typing a receipt in by hand is always free and unmetered, as is everything else.

We can change the features, the free allowances, or these terms. If a change is material we will say so on the site before it takes effect rather than after. What we have committed to is written down separately, and it is deliberately narrower and more checkable than a promise to be nice.

7.Accuracy, and the limits of it

Every split is calculated in whole cents and verified to sum exactly to the receipt total; if it did not, the app would refuse to show it rather than display a figure that is a cent out. That guarantee covers the arithmetic.

It does not cover the reading. Receipt scanning is automated, and a crumpled receipt, a bad photo or an unusual layout can produce a wrong line — which is why the app shows you its own total against the printed one, and why you should check the figures before anybody pays anybody. The final responsibility for what your friends are asked to pay is yours, not ours.

Nothing here is financial, tax or legal advice. Tax rates found on a receipt are read off that receipt; they are not a statement about what any jurisdiction charges.

8.Availability

The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. It is built and run by one person: it will occasionally be down, and features can change or be withdrawn.

Keep your own record of anything that matters. Any split can be copied out as plain text at any time, which is the intended way to do that.

9.Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data or profits, or for disputes between you and the people you split bills with. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us — which, for a free service with no paid tier, is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, and where that is the case those exclusions do not apply to you and the rest of this clause still stands.

10.Ending it

You can stop using EachSplit whenever you like. Your bills stay where they are until you ask for them to go — nothing here expires on a timer, so that a split from two years ago is still there when you want it — and asking is all it takes: write to eachsplit.support@gmail.com from the address on your account and your account and what is attached to it come off. Bills that other people have also contributed to may survive in their copy of the split, since it is their record too.

We can close an account that is breaching clause 5, or withdraw the service entirely, with reasonable notice where notice is possible.

11.Getting in touch

Questions about these terms go to the same address as everything else: eachsplit.support@gmail.com. There is more about who is behind the site on the about page.

These terms are written to be understandable rather than exhaustive. They are not a substitute for legal advice, and if your use of EachSplit is commercial or unusual you should take your own.
